GHRH receptor

Category: Receptors · Last updated

The Growth Hormone-Releasing Hormone receptor (GHRH-R) is a Gαs-coupled class-B G-protein-coupled receptor expressed on pituitary somatotroph cells. Its endogenous ligand is GHRH (44 amino acids in humans), a hypothalamic peptide released into the hypophyseal portal circulation.

Signaling

GHRH binding activates adenylate cyclase → cAMP → protein kinase A. PKA phosphorylates voltage-gated calcium channels, triggering calcium influx and vesicular release of stored Growth_hormone. The pathway is complementary to Ghrelin_receptor activation — combined stimulation produces synergistic GH pulses.

Relevance to research peptides

  • Tesamorelin · FDA-approved stabilized GHRH(1-44) analog (Egrifta®)
  • CJC-1295 · GHRH(1-29) analog with two pharmacokinetic variants (With DAC / No DAC)
