VEGF

Category: Proteins · Last updated

VEGF (Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor) is a family of dimeric glycoprotein growth factors that drive angiogenesis and vasculogenesis. The dominant family member, VEGF-A, signals primarily through VEGFR2 on endothelial cells.

Family

  • VEGF-A · the canonical "VEGF"; primary pro-angiogenic ligand
  • VEGF-B · cardiac and skeletal muscle metabolism
  • VEGF-C · lymphangiogenesis
  • VEGF-D · lymphangiogenesis
  • PlGF · placental growth factor; cooperates with VEGF-A

Relevance to research peptides

  • BPC-157 · animal-model studies report VEGF / VEGFR2 upregulation at wound sites
